With a strong commitment to keeping abreast of its community's needs, the Fairfield Family YMCA has unveiled the newest wing in their facility, the Laserfiche Fitness Center.
The newly renovated space features an array of state of the art weight and cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, elliptical trainers and stationary bicycles, all equipped with individual television screens and headphone outputs. There are also special areas for youth and senior fitness.
Four years in the works, the fitness center was completed in November 2006 with the help of a $150,000 donation from Laserfiche.
"It shows their commitment to the community as well as to the YMCA," said Ricky Grover, executive director of the Fairfield Family YMCA. In honor of Laserfiche's generous donation, the fitness center was named after them.
The Laserfiche Fitness Center is part of the Fairfield Family YMCA's desire to facilitate a healthier lifestyle for its community. "As our community is becoming more health conscious, the need [for this facility] is there," said Grover.
While they continue to offer aquatic classes, the Fairfield Y recently added a greater selection of fitness classes such as Polynesian dance aerobics, cardio salsa and belly dancing. Grover said they would soon be adding even more classes including Pilates.
Beginning Jan. 12, a series of nutrition and cooking classes called Food for Life will be offered for eight consecutive Fridays. The topic for the first week will be Fueling up on Low-Fat foods.
Until recently, The Fairfield Family YMCA was known primarily for its childcare and preschool services. In keeping with their reputation for providing a family-friendly environment, they have added a new child-watch area for parents who wish to bring little ones with them while they work out.
"We wanted to offer our community more than what they'd expect," said Grover. "We want them to feel as if they're at home."
The Fairfield Family YMCA is located at 4949 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. For more information, call (562) 279-1700.
