Bixby Business Center gives tenants executive treatment

Driving up Atlantic Avenue, it's hard to miss the four-story, gray-blue reflective glass of the Bixby Business Center (BBC). Boasting panoramic views of the ocean and the San Bernadino Mountains, BBC has been a landmark in the Bixby Knolls community for over 20 years.
The 59,000-square-foot class A building is located in the heart of Bixby Knolls and is home to a variety of businesses, from therapists to counselors, from CPA's to plastic surgeons.
"It's a beautiful building," says Marsha Fortner, a project manager at the Bixby Business Center. "I would consider it to be one of the most prestigious buildings on Atlantic Avenue for office space. You can see it from the north or the south."
In addition to a prime location and sleek modern design, BBC offers its businesses the option of executive suites.
"The second floor is called the executive center," explains Fortner. "That particular floor comes with an executive receptionist in the lobby area, use of the lobby, the conference rooms and the kitchen, which comes with coffee and tea service."
A general receptionist fields incoming calls and answers with the name of the business for whom the client is calling. "They don't have to have their own support staff," says Fortner. "They have the luxury that if they're out of the office, they still have someone answering their phones. We even do their appointment book. It works really well for [the businesses]."
Other amenities BBC tenants enjoy include having someone who can pick up or drop off packages, two loading zones, almost 200 parking spaces, a daytime parking attendant and nighttime security guard in the customer parking lot and secured underground tenant parking.
Fortner's focus at the moment is the leasing of BBC's first floor. The lease on the 9,620 -square-foot bank space is held by Washington Mutual, but the bank's final plans for the empty space are to be determined later this month. Should they decide not to move in, they're lease will terminate in September.
"It's a gorgeous space, and we're looking to get a wonderful bank or financial institution in there," says Fortner. Although the layout of the floor is currently designed for a bank, Fortner feels it could, with some renovations, be made to accommodate other types of businesses such as a restaurant. Between the tenants and employees in BBC and the traffic from the surrounding commerce, Fortner believes any business would do well to take advantage of the built-in clientele.
