Caring is Main Concern at Courtyard Care Center

To be members of the staff at Courtyard Care Center, employees not only have to be qualified in their field, they have to be creative and caring. This is apparent when one walks in the door; the grounds are clean, comfortable and, thanks to their monthly themed décor, festive.
"This month we have a Hawaiian theme," said Activities Director Dennis Guray.
Courtyard Care Center is a 24-hour skilled nursing facility that offers a range of services including rehabilitative nursing, a comprehensive in-house therapy program, advanced wound care, IV therapy, pain management, hospice care, respite care, supportive social services and creative recreational activities.
Located in quiet residential area of Signal Hill, the facility has been providing quality geriatric nursing and rehabilitation care in a home-like environment for over ten years. Their main goal is help residents in the adaptation process to the nursing facility, while focusing on attaining the highest level of functioning in a rehabilitative environment.
The cozy atmosphere and personal interaction between resident and caregiver should be credited to the staff's commitment to excellence, according to Medical Director Dr. David Singer.
"I would like to single out our nursing staff whose competency, initiative and caring really is the backbone of the outstanding service that we provide," said Dr. Singer. "As a practicing physician in the area of gerontology, it is a pleasure to work with a nursing staff who is not only attuned to the needs of the elderly, but actually anticipates these needs, which truly makes the attending physician's rounds a pleasure by having all needed information 'at the ready.'"
The staff works diligently to make each patient's stay as pleasant as possible. They celebrate birthdays, take nature walks, enjoy western-themed activities and take part in cultural events. Some activities are designed for both high-functioning as well as low-functioning residents, such as "Nails and Tales," where they relax through manicures and storytelling.
One sign that clients are pleased with the efforts of the interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and social workers at Courtyard Care Center is the number of referrals they receive from former patients.
"We're a people first facility," Community Outreach Director Julie Javier said. "[The residents] like the friendly environment. This is like a second home to them."
