Jinny Bemis: Over 30 Years of Homes, Sweet Homes
By Ofelia Saenz, Signal Tribune staff writer
The world of real estate had a different face when realtor Jinny Bemis started out some 30 years ago. But in spite of the challenges of entering a business with relatively few women at the time, she became comfortable in the industry early on.
Bemis is currently a realtor with Coldwell Banker Coastal Alliance Real Estate and specializes in Lakewood and Long Beach, the cities she has been farming since she first became an agent.
Having been a broker for nearly her entire career as an agent, Bemis has, in the past, owned her own office. These days, however, she prefers the umbrella of working for a larger broker.
"There were very few women, and I was young," Bemis recalled of her early years. Her father was in real estate, which helped her dive in with confidence. "I knew a little something about it and I decided I would try it."
Three decades later, Bemis is still going strong. Part of the longevity of her career could be attributed to her dedication to keeping up with current trends in the industry and a commitment to learning new technologies that allow her to give her clients an edge.
Bemis is a member of the Greater Long Beach Real Estate Club. She has attended weekly real estate meetings at the Grand every Thursday morning for almost as long as she has been an agent. At one point, she was even president of the organization.
"We have all kinds of speakers," Bemis said. At the gatherings, Bemis networks with other agents and industry people, plugs her properties and learns about changes in the market.
"I've seen all types of markets, the ups and downs, the 16 and 18 percent interest on home [loans]," Bemis said, "So I'm well qualified to face almost anything."
Bemis is also an honorary member of the Pacific West Association of Realtors, the Rancho Board of Realtors and the California Association of Realtors.
Although Bemis's vast experience has been an integral part of her success, she believes her ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients is just as valuable a trait. Bemis credits her capacity for relating to people to her history of community service. When the city of Lakewood celebrated its 50th anniversary four years ago, Bemis was honored as one of Lakewood's 50 Everyday Heroes.
"I think I can relate to people better," she said.
As a 30-year veteran realtor, Bemis never stops striving to elevate her level of professionalism. "My vision is to be the realtor all of my clients would...refer to their, family and work associates, [and] to continually rise above the expected service of my clients and to always evolve with the ever changing real estate market," she said.
