After five long years of searching for just the right location, co-owners Eric Hatch and Doug Mayhew have opened Bixby Knolls Launder Pet in the former home of Dana's Pet Grooming at the corner of Orange Avenue and Carson Street.

Bixby Knolls Launder Pet is the third location for Hatch and Mayhew. Hatch thanks his loyal clientele for the success of their flagship store in Belmont Heights, but with two new stores in less than a year-the Bixby Knolls location opened in June on the heels of a Seal Beach location that opened in March-credit must go to Hatch and Mayhew for their hard work and business savvy.

"Our mission is to focus on outstanding customer service," Hatch said. "Our clients enjoy coming to our shops because we take the time to get to know them and their pets, and to provide a consistent level of high-quality service."

Bixby Knolls Launder Pet is a full-service dog and cat grooming facility. Qualified, caring groomers use all natural shampoos in an open layout that allows concerned and protective pet owners the opportunity to watch the entire grooming process, from bathing and brushing to haircutting and drying.

"We screen pretty heavily when looking for pet groomers," Hatch said. Aside from being knowledgeable about pet grooming, being a pet-lover is also a prerequisite for all of their staff. Hatch has such confidence in the people behind the Launder Pet name that his own beloved pet, Buster, a "big, red, rescue dog" comes in every two to four weeks.

Renovations for the new location are still in the planning phase, and will eventually include a separate area for self-service pet washing. Currently, the Bixby Knolls location is only open Tuesday through Saturday, but walk-ins and same-day appointments are welcome as space allows.

Launder Pet also offers premium foods, toys and treats, all in a neighborhood setting. "Canidae and Felidae are actually two of the best-selling premium dog and cat foods that we carry at our store in Belmont Heights, and they're available now in Bixby Knolls," said Hatch.

With Launder Pets' Belmont Heights store reporting record sales for 2005, Hatch and Mayhew believe that customers hold the secret to success and plan to apply that philosophy to the new locations. "This store has a long pet-grooming history in this location," said Hatch. "I'd like to thank the long time customers who have done business here. We're certainly hoping to tailor this store to the needs of friends and customers here in Bixby Knolls."
