Neighbor's Plus Insurance puts client's needs first

John Wilson believes in an old fashioned way of doing business.
"Our service starts with listening to [the client's needs,]" says Wilson of Neighbors Plus Insurance Services. Wilson has more than 23 years experience as an underwriter and licensed agent, but for the last year, he has been serving the community and surrounding area of Lakewood Village.
"I live in the area," says Wilson. "I wanted to be part of the community by having a business [here] and being the neighborhood agent." Although his clients come from all over the Long Beach and Lakewood area, Wilson loves being in a location where many of his customers can walk to his office.
The focus of Neighbors Plus Insurance is to provide personal insurance products for auto and home including coverage for motorcycles, watercrafts and renter's insurance. By providing choices from a number of companies, they are able to tailor coverage to the needs of the client at competitive prices, and they do so without charging a broker fee.
Of course, moving into the neighborhood is only half the recipe for making a good neighbor; the other half comes from Wilson's open and friendly demeanor.
"I want people to know they can ask me anything," says Wilson, "and if I don't know the answer, I'll find out for them. I want them to be comfortable, because if they're comfortable with who they work with, they're going to trust me."
One way Wilson tries to earn his customer's trust is through educating them as consumers. Many people often don't realize some of their coverage is redundant. "I don't oversell. There are sometimes when someone will have a policy before coming to me and I ask, 'Why do you need that?' Why pay a premium for something that you don't really need?"
He believes the only way to truly tailor a policy to a client's needs is to take the time to ask the right questions and to inform the customer about their options. "I try to size up exactly what the individual has, what they need and maybe what they don't need," says Wilson. "I pride myself on explaining a lot."
Neighbors Plus Insurance not only puts a conscientious effort into making sure a client's policy is a custom fit, they do so in a convenient location and a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. But then, what are neighbors for?
