Paradise Bound Heads to Bixby Knolls
By Ofelia Saenz, Signal Tribune staff writer

Paradise Bound is back. The popular Hawaiian boutique recently relocated from Belmont Shore to Bixby Knolls. Although their current home is new, their reputation is long standing. Over the last forty years that they've been in business, the store has been recognized numerous times for being the premier Hawaiian clothier in the area, most recently by L.A. Magazine; Paradise Bound was named in their 2005 list of "The 101 Best Things in L.A. County."

"We want to build upon the tradition that Joe La Rosa established in his store Victor's Gifts," says owner Stephen Gih. " We are proud to take over the space Joe has occupied for many decades and hope to carry on Joe's commitment to customer service, quality goods and community involvement." Patrons of Victor's will be happy to know that not only has Gih preserved Victor's stain glass sign, but also he's convinced Joe to work part-time for Paradise Bound.

To show their appreciation for repeat customers, Paradise Bound rewards them through their "Frequent Buyer Program." After purchasing 10 items, customers are allowed to take home any item in the shop within the average price range of the purchased items. There is no need time limit on the program and no need to carry around a membership card.

Paradise Bound was among the first to introduce exclusive brands such as Reyn Spooner, Tommy Bahama, Jam's World, Tori Richards, Nat Nast and Croc to the area.

"We are in the business of selling 'eye-candy,'" says Gih. "Our selection of tropical prints, novelty theme shirts and pure Kitsch is what makes us so unique."

Local metal artisan Ron LaForest says, "It's like walking into a museum. Whatever you need in a Hawaiian shirt you will probably find it here, be it the shirt Tom Selleck made famous on Magnum P.I., a replica of the shirt Elvis Presley wore in Blue Hawaii, or a special occasion outfit for a wedding, luau, casual Friday, cruise or even for Cinco de Mayo or Christmas."

To celebrate the grand opening of their new store, Paradise Bound is inviting everyone to a catered Hawaiian BBQ. The event will take place on Sunday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the back parking lot. A factory rep for Reyn Spooner will be on hand to preview the Fall and holiday collection including the new 2006 Christmas shirt. He will also be available to take custom orders.

Paradise Bound is located at 3920 Atlantic Avenue, in Bixby Knolls. Store hours are Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information call (562) 490-4620.
