Designer's motto is 'renovation with restoration'
By Ofelia Saenz, Signal Tribune staff writer
Remodeling a home can be a costly and time-consuming process, but working with the right designer is key in making the experience less intimidating and more rewarding.
Eric Wynkoop of Wynco Design Corporation is putting his passion for architecture and interior design to task for those looking to enhance the aesthetic as well as the monetary value of their home. Wynkoop's goal is to create an inspiring home environment while working within the parameters of a client's budget and schedule.
"From a remodeling standpoint, we focus on a good 'design' and increasing a home's value," says Wynkoop. That doesn't have to mean costly remodeling. Although the initial consultation is free, Wynco Design provides counseling at an hourly fee.
When money is an issue, Wynkoop likes to work with a client's existing furniture and room structure. He starts by suggesting a few simple things he believes people without a huge budget can do to dramatically change the look of a space. According to Wynkoop, paint, recessed lighting and moldings can make quite an impact in a room, and he helps clients make the smart choices for color and placement.
Wynco Design challenges the preconception that working with a designer has to be a costly affair. "We are priced to make design affordable to everyone," says Wynkoop. He points out that, when considered against the advantage of increasing the value of one's property, remodeling not only enhances personal comfort but also makes for a smart financial investment.
In an initial consultation, clients can expect to be briefed on Wynkoop's mantra on design:
• Study the current environment of the home.
• Remove the obstacles to comfort, resale value and good design.
• Make a plan to build value through adding in details, features and furnishings.
These are the same principles Wynkoop used when remodeling his own home, which he now uses as the workspace for Wynco Design.
Working from home gives Wynkoop a chance to enjoy his crown jewel. After leaving his job as an award-winning display designer for department stores, he began working full-time remodeling his own home. One year later, the restored 1950s ranch-style house in Bixby Knolls serves as his home office as well as an impressive showroom of Wynkoop's talents as a visionary designer.
Wynkoop takes on jobs of any size, small or large, but he especially enjoys the challenge of a whole house remodel and restoration. His education in both architecture and interior design (his father and grandfather were both architects) also make him a competent liaison between client and contractor; the advantage to his clients is that they can concentrate on their busy lives with confidence while Wynkoop works his magic.
